Adsense is an ad serving program run by Google. Websites & blogs owners can enroll in this network to enable text, image and, (added recently), video advertisements on their sites. These ads are administered by Google and they generate revenue based on either a per-click basis or per-thousand-impressions basis.
Adsense is widely considered the no. 1 revenue source for bloggers and webmasters in general, because….errr. it is relatively "easy" to earn money with adsense compared to other methods. Upto this date, no other network offered such high pay per click / impression rates.
